LARIMAR

General information

Larimar is a rare, blue variety of pectolite. The stone is translucent to opaque with a glassy to satiny sheen. Hemimorphite is sometimes sold as Chinese larimar, but it is not a larimar variety but a different rock.

Effect

Larimar provides mental and spiritual strength. It helps you take charge of your life and cope with change. It provides inner peace, clarity, and balance and counteracts self-destructive behavior and a victim mentality. The stone helps with anxiety, stress, guilt, and extreme emotions (and thus also with bipolar disorder) and helps break through blockages. The stone encourages action but also encourages letting things unfold when necessary. Larimar promotes deep meditation and helps connect with guides and angels. Physically, the stone stimulates the body's self-healing capacity, has pain-relieving properties, and helps with problems of the lungs, throat, chest, heart, and cartilage.

Care

Larimar is very sensitive to light and loses its blue color as a result. Therefore, it's best not to charge this stone with sunlight. Larimar should also not be cleansed with water.

Applications

Larimar can be worn on or near the body for extended periods. The stone can be placed on a chakra to release blockages. During meditation, larimar can be placed on the solar plexus, chest, or forehead.

Etymology

Larimar is named after the daughter of the discoverer of the stone, Miguel Méndez, Larissa, and the Spanish word mar (= sea).

Origin

The main source of larimar is Los Chupaderos in the southwestern Dominican Republic.
